Iran, regional pole of Memory of the World Program
The 4th biennial summit of the Memory of the World Program regional Asia-Pacific committee was held today (March 8, 2010) in Macao in the presence of Iran's cultural presidential advisor and head of the Organization of Document and National Library of Iran. IBNA: According to the public relations office of the organization of documents and Iran\'s National library, in the summit, Ali-Akbar Ashari, cultural advisor of the president and head of the organization, delivered a report on the activities of the National Memory of the World Committee of Iran and said "the committee began operating in Iran in 2006 and since then three works by Iranians have been registered in the world and 12 works have been registered nationally."
Head of the national committee of UNESCO\'s Memory of the World Program stated that many related workshops have been held in Iran which are themed that one of the most important Memory of the World topics every year.
"This year, the workshops will be held internationally in the presence of experts from other countries," he said.
Ashari underlined the role Asian scientists have had in the present status of human civilizations and asserted that "given the large share of the continent in the world history and formation of the human civilizations, it should enjoy more entries in the Memory of the World Program."
"So far as I am informed, many Asian nations are still alien to the program and it is not being practiced there," added Ashari, "therefore, I hereby call for expansion of the program in western, south west and central Asian nations."
The three-day summit is themed at preventing destruction of cultural documents and heritages.
Besides Ashari, UNESCO officials and representatives from countries like China, Indonesia, Mongolia, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Japan have attended the summit. Id : 64449 |
